On January 7, 2006, a dog was killed by poisoned meat thrown into the dog's yard. Police say they are hunting someone with a depraved mindset and have found no motive for the Williamstown attacks. It is believed the perpetrator threw poisoned meat into back yards of houses in Oakbank St from a laneway. Residents were too scared to be identified or photographed with their pets, in case the dog killer strikes again.

Two small dogs, believed to be a Jack Russell and a fox terrier, were poisoned. One died but the other survived. Another resident, who works from home, said she now left her dog inside when she was out. "It's just unimaginable that someone could do something like that," she said.
